"The Creator"

"The Creator"

"The Creator"

Got to see “The Creator” on the big screen this afternoon—a new sci-fi movie about a war (among other things) between AI and humans. So refreshing to see an original film with a unique story that’s not a sequel or remake… easily an 8/10 for me, I loved it! Highly recommend if you like futuristic stuff.

But, that’s not all.

As an ex-videographer and camera nerd, I love to read more about the behind-the-scenes. I was shocked to learn it was shot on a Sony FX3: A consumer-grade cinema camera that costs just $4,000 for the body. Of course, there are tons of lenses, rigging, stabilizers, and bells and whistles that make it workable on-set, but… FOUR GRAND. For a *real-deal* movie that I saw in IMAX!

For context, Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” was filmed on an Arri Alexa IMAX camera, which goes for — wait for it — about $500,000 EACH.

Moral of the story: The tools don’t matter nearly as much as you make-believe. You’re capable of doing amazing work with what you have right now. The limits of your tools are likely far from being met — go further, do more, and create in power.
