Internet restraint

Internet restraint

Internet restraint

Extremely underrated skill: Keeping your mouth shut.

Many of life’s opportunities are missed because of fearful inaction — but conversely, many of life’s problems are caused by a lack of restraint. Simply having the awareness and willpower to hold yourself back in heated moments will save you (and everyone) a lot of frustration.

It goes beyond the cliché: “If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all” — as a functioning, able-minded adult, you need to consider the context and further-reaching results of what you choose to say online. Do future you (and again, everyone) a solid by not saying that snarky, unkind, or straight up stupid thing that drifts into your mind while emotional.

Because the internet is forever. So, act like it.
