Inter v4.0

Inter v4.0

Inter v4.0

Rasmus Andersson just released version 4.0 of his incredibly popular typeface, Inter. Pretty insane that one of the (subjectively) best typefaces out there keeps getting new features and improvements, further establishing Rasmus’ mastery of the craft.

Ironically, many “senior-level designers” seem to shun Inter because of its widespread use in digital mediums, as if the popularity means it’s not niche or elite enough. The memes are bountiful on Twitter particularly. And yet, it’s just such a robust tool for creation that regardless of nagging feedback to “pick a different font already!”, I’m in awe of how a simple side project can turn into something as beloved as Inter. There’s a line on the marketing site that really gives some insight into this diversity:

“Inter is one of the world's most used typefaces with applications ranging from computer interfaces, advertising & airports, to NASA instrumentation & medical equipment.”

Basically, if you’ve used the internet, you’ve most likely seen Inter… which is wild. I’ll most likely test out the new style features on my next Squarespace template since the lack of a client brief really lends to peacefully exploring new designs. Here’s to continual improvement of what you care about, and choosing what you want in life regardless of what Internet People™ have to say about it!
