An impossible situation

An impossible situation

An impossible situation

I usually get inspired for what to write about from social media (at least a little bit, most of it is garbage). Maybe some visual concept will spark an idea, or a public argument will encourage deeper introspection on what I think on the matter…

But, not today.

All I’ve been seeing is the atrocious situation unfolding in Israel and Gaza, and the absolute onslaught of international debate that’s more-or-less, “which team are you on?”… which feels preposterous to consider as a mere spectator from the other side of the planet. It's an impossible situation with decades of deeply convoluted history — there's no easy answer for all the nuanced conflict. And yet onlookers around the world still seek to come to a tidy, easily shareable conclusion that signals the virtues they so choose.

Is it morally lazy to simply say that terrorism is bad, and protecting human lives is good? Is it in bad taste to support and love those in Israel who have been barbarically attacked… AND want to somehow see peace for innocent Palestinians who have been oppressed by extremists?

I just have a really ominous feeling about it all. It’s not an exaggeration to say that sometime in the next week, we very well might witness a genocide in Palestine, live in 4K from the comfort of our smartphones. Technology has connected us all directly to the front lines of what's happening, second-by-second, in a way that's never been before. Catastrophes, wars, and violence have been televised for decades, but… this is different.

Much love and deepest condolences to those affected by war, and godspeed to all innocent civilians caught in the grueling middle.
