Today's thought

Oh, email

I recently subscribed to a few daily email lists of people whose content I admire, and confirmed a sneaking suspicion I pretty much already knew was true: I kinda hate getting daily emails (lol).

Many of the influential emailers who originally inspired my daily practice are great communicators with easy-to-read writing… but there are three problems:

  1. Daily goes an inch deep in a million directions.

  2. Alternatively, it’s super-duper niche and repetitive.

  3. I deeply crave an empty inbox.

I share this because it makes me wonder about this daily format and if it’s really the best medium for my writing — like, am I doing myself a disservice by only excavating 1% of an idea, rather than really exploring through longer-form content? The daily aspect is great, and I’m thrilled to share things regularly… but via email, a platform that I exclusively use for work? It’s rather conflicting.

Perhaps this is a 2024 thing to consider: What does daily creation look like for me (and you, if you want!), knowing that I’m capable? Is the idea-sculpting the hard part that needs work, or is it more of refining the process and method? What’s really the point of sending emails anyways?!

All things to ponder.
