Someone who cares

Someone who cares

Someone who cares

People will often hold onto a version of you in their heads that fits into the narrative of their life (basically, an NPC in many cases) — not the truest, most accurate one that you work hard to put into the world.

We all do it naturally, since there’s no possible way to keep up-to-date with the nuances of every single person we come into contact with. But, this leads to two conclusions worth considering:

  1. Don’t take it personally when someone lacks context or falls back on what they know about you. Most people aren’t malicious about their single-persona way of remembering, so offer up extra patience (or just thick skin) to be affable in their eyes.

  2. Putting effort into trying REALLY shows. It feels amazing to interact with someone who seeks to listen and care about what you have to say. Just remembering even a single relevant detail about someone’s story or situation can go a very long way.
